THE COMFORT IN A TECH GUY'S APPEARANCE
As
a beauty enthusiast and now, a customer care representative, I pay a very
important and close attention to physical appearance of both male and female
alike. Beyond the truth in the saying You are addressed the way you are
dressed, a good appearance gives you a very confident outlook. When I refer to
appearance most times, I include the facial outlook too. As an individual, make
sure you are attracting positive energy from other people through your
appearance, always dress for the occasion and put on a smile. We cannot even
begin to discuss the importance of wearing a smile on your face, it makes a
lady look more beautiful beyond all the effects of makeup.
Indeed,
the benefit of a smile on everyones face is such that it definitely increases
the life span and reduces the chances of wrinkles, and also portrays you as
approachable.
However,
working in an IT firm for barely one month and observing how official or corporate
appearance has been made me go deeper in researching how tech guys appear. And
from my finding, it is quite expedient that I create this blog post talking
about how tech guys appear at work. I also discovered that the mode of dressing
for tech guys is the same across the globe irrespective of varying weather
conditions. Comfortable clothing is the gospel that is preached to all tech
guys and as such, everybody is entitled to their own definition of comfort.
There is a note of warning to this however, tech guys do not appear indecent. When the goal is to
slightly change the manner you look, but still feel like yourself, it is
advised to switch out only one or two elements of the "uniform" you
usually wear to worklike trading a suit jacket for a jumper, or joggers
for jeans.
Below, is
some specific advice for tech guys at three points on
the casual-formal spectrum;
If
you're used to working from home i.e., you have never had to go to work,
In reality, you can wear anything to most tech companies, but I'd draw the line at joggers. Instead, stick to a comfortable uniform of t-shirts, plain zip-up hoodies and trainers plus chinos, which will make even a hoodie feel much smarter than it actually is. For trainers, stick to a simple pair with no more than two colors.
If you're used to wearing shirts to work,
You can obviously wear a
shirt with jeans or chinos to work at a tech start-up, but if
you want to look a bit more casual, switch to a crew-neck
sweatshirt. Go for a fitted shape, which keeps it from looking
sloppy. Besides, a sweatshirt won't crease the way shirts do after hours
at your desk.
If you're used to wearing a suit to
work,
Some people find it hard to wear anything
but a suit to work, which is understandable. Suits make you
immediately feel sharp and professional, and completely different from the
way you feel on weekends. If you're taking it down a notch, I'd advise you
trade your suit jacket for a jumper, which will help you look
slightly more casual, but still feel like your usual work self.
